"People first paid honour to a spot and afterwards gained glory for it. Men did not love Rome because she was great. She was great because they had loved her."

Brennan Timber Frame Day 5

Brennan Timber Frame Day 5

Today, we finished up the two side bents. Now the main bent and side bents of the frame are stacked and ready for raising. First of next week the radius details get carved into the bracing and rafter members.

The frame's final joint. The tenon is moments away from being marked and drilled. Studying the layout lines provides an effective visual reference as to what is going on inside.

When working with wood of this quality and age it is worth considering every off-cut and scrap. These scraps are set aside for a good friend who appreciates campfires more than anyone else I know. The sweet cedar pares well with contemplation and conversation.
