"People first paid honour to a spot and afterwards gained glory for it. Men did not love Rome because she was great. She was great because they had loved her."

Monastery Timber Frame, Day 1

Monastery Timber Frame, Day 1

Today marks the beginning of the timber frame work for the Monastery of the Holy Spirit. Before jumping into any layout or joinery work, we talked through the connections and the order of assembly. Gathering everyone together and going over the process helps ensure that any unforeseen kinks get addressed now and not further on down the road.

After setting up shop, we jumped right into the first of five trusses. The first day's progress is always slower as we sort out the staging and find the right rhythm, but we made good headway nonetheless. I am looking forward to tomorrow and the progress that comes with it.

Many thanks to the Dollins for generously allowing us to use their space. Always nice to have a place to lay out tools and material, and to have a fire going in the mornings is worth its weight in gold.
