"People first paid honour to a spot and afterwards gained glory for it. Men did not love Rome because she was great. She was great because they had loved her."

Honoring Thirty Years
IMG_1231.JPG

Thirty years of growth and then harvest. For a good many carpenters, a 2x4 has seen more sunrises than they have. Thirty years, three decades, quite young for a pine, but almost eclipses the whole of a builder’s career. How rarely do we stop and consider the relationship between us and the trees we are indebted to? Rarer still to incorporate such considerations into the methodologies and motions of our work! Ought we not to? Stocking lumber up off of the mud and shielding it from the sun and the rain seems a fair bargain, considering it shall soon return the favor. Indeed, it more than returns the favor. For those sticks of lumber will humbly serve our needs for years to come.
