Monastery Timber Frame, Day 2

The first part of today was spent arranging the rafters and standards together along with the hammer post & beam components and the king post & chord component. Assembling these pieces together forms the visual bulk of the truss, and gives a reassuring glimpse at the finished form we are working towards. After the components are laid out properly on our jig, new scribe marks are made, and the next section of jointwork begins.

Even with the scribe marks established, we still spent a considerable amount of time hashing out the best way to approach the mortise and tenon joints for this application. Time well spent. Approaching a new project and a new form requires patience to consider a decision and its implications. By early afternoon we were rewarded for our patience and spent the rest of the day making rapid progress.
